Our Story

How a small act of compassion grew into a 25-acre haven for over 150 rescued animals.

How It Began

From a Backyard Rescue
to a Lifelong Mission

In 2014, founder Elena Vasquez rescued three neglected horses from a local auction. What started as a temporary foster arrangement quickly revealed a community need for a permanent, no-kill sanctuary where animals could live out their lives in peace.

Within two years, Elena had acquired 25 acres of farmland, assembled a team of dedicated caregivers, and opened Green Haven Animal Sanctuary. Today, we are home to over 150 animals across dozens of species — each one loved, named, and cared for individually.

What We Stand For

Our core values guide every decision we make in the care and advocacy for animals.

Compassion First

Every animal is treated with dignity, gentleness, and respect. We approach each rescue with empathy, understanding trauma and prioritizing emotional recovery alongside physical healing.

Lifetime Commitment

We never turn away an animal in need, and we never give up on one. Our sanctuary is a forever home — not a stepping stone. Animals stay with us for life.

Transparency

We maintain open books and regular updates about our operations, finances, and the status of every animal in our care. Donors and volunteers know exactly where their contributions go.

Environmental Harmony

Our sanctuary practices sustainable land management, solar power, water conservation, and organic feed sourcing. We believe protecting animals and protecting the planet go hand in hand.
